Happy Independence Day!

Seventy years of Independent India. Seventy years of saying Happy Independence Day! Most of us alive today do not remember a time when we weren’t independent. All we know is India, the way she is today.

However, in these seventy years, we have managed to enslave ourselves with diseases that were unheard of when our great grandparents were our age. Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer in India today. We are among the world leaders in diabetes and obesity. Nearly every person suffering from these diseases need not be suffering.

Diabetes and Heart Disease are NOT natural as you age!

There is one simple, yet powerful method to prevent and even reverse chronic lifestyle diseases. Eliminate the root causes of disease, and the body naturally heals itself. This is not something new. Our great grandparents never had these diseases because they followed a natural way of life, which is a lifestyle that has now been scientifically proven to bestow longer, healthier lives. A lifestyle that we teach at the Healing With Food workshop.

Gandhiji Firmly Believed in Nature Cure

We all know Gandhiji, the father who fasted for the nation, but only a handful of us know him as the man who fasted for health and even fewer know the teacher in him; one who taught Nature Cure to thousands of people across India.

Here is an anecdote that will elucidate a side of him that we don’t hear of too often.

Gandhiji had returned to India from South Africa. It was then that his son Manilal, fell ill with typhoid. The doctor he consulted advised that the child eat eggs and chicken broth, “He needs the energy to recover from this illness” he had said. However, Gandhiji, a strong believer in Nature Cure did otherwise. He put his son on a juice fast and gave him hip-baths and wet sheet packs. These simple yet powerful treatments yielded amazing results! In just three days, Manilal’s fever broke, and he was completely cured within forty days.

On Nature Cure, Gandhiji had said, “Nature Cure implies that the treatment should be the cheapest and simplest possible. The ideal is that such treatment should be carried in every village. Nature cure means a change for the better in one’s outlook on life itself. It means the regulation of one’s life in accordance with the laws of health.”

How succinctly put!

“A man who takes to Nature Cure never begs. Self-help enhances self-respect. He takes steps to cure himself by eliminating poisons from his system and taking precautions against falling ill in the future”, he said.
