This feels unreal. It is the fourth of our fast. 97 of us have survived on just lemon honey juice since yesterday
I wonder how the body is running without fuel! I’m amazed at the body’s ability to store energy. I always thought that if I don’t eat for a day or two, the body would become weak and sick and my immunity would be impacted. That myth is now dispelled.
Fasting is amazing, with the morning walk on the lawn, the mountain breeze, the lemon juice and the morning’s therapies. We drank lemon honey juice 6 times today, and loads of water. We’ve been taught that this will help flush out toxins that are accumulated in every cell of the body. When these accumulated toxins are released, they cause the formation of free radical in the body, which can potentially damage the body. Lemon helps neutralise these free radicals, because it has plenty of antioxidants. And, honey provides the minimum caloric requirements of the body. There are many more changes that happen in the body. Thinking about these made me drink the juice even though my taste buds aren’t too happy!
We had a guest lecture on meditation by Dr. Alex Hankey, Professor from SVYASA Yoga University. Dr. Alex Hankey is a theoretical physicist trained at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Cambridge, who is now integrating Vedic principles and concepts with physics to help come to a better understanding of the world around us. He spoke to us at length about meditation. We were introduced to a number of new concepts, which he had not looked at from that perspective before.
After a relaxed evening of nature walks, mud packs and juice, we are lying down, about to sleep, hoping to remain energetic for the next three days!
I can sense a lot of changes in my body. WIthout a bed or cushions, my sleep is really sound. My body feels light, my mind is happy for no reason. I just want to spend time with nature, soaking in the sky and the trees around me. Thoughts have stopped buzzing around in my head and haunting me. Fasting is an amazing experience.
Fasting has not just given us a break and made us rest. I have realised the importance of food, the emotions you feel while serving it, the value of food, and why the world is so bothered about food. I would never have understood this otherwise. Reading about something and experiencing it are two very different things.
It is making me think: If I could survive with minimum comfort and least requirements, why are we struggling so hard to live? Well, I guess the reason is to know who we actually are and what the purpose of life on Earth is. If food is considered a materialistic urge, it should be stopped to reach a higher goal.
